Our Wanaka Adventure tour begins at Queenstown or Christchurch airport where your host will be waiting to pick you up. We jump into the snowrider minivan and head for NZ's famous ski town. Your home with us here is SSR HQ - our spectacular private lodge located in the Wanaka countryside. Chill out on the lounge in front of the fire, relax in the spa bath upstairs, put on some music or a DVD and get amped about your adventure in the Southern Alps.

The SSR Southern Lakes liftpass is valid at: Treble Cone, Cardrona, Snowpark NZ, Ohau, Coronet Peak and The Remarkables. This flexibility allows you to spend your week riding a variety of mountains. These skifields are the most commercial in the South Island, so there are high speed chairlifts to whisk you back up to the top after every run. It also means that there are plenty of groomed runs and top quality terrain parks and halfpipes for your riding pleasure!

WANAKA ADVENTURE TOUR

The SSR Wanaka Adventure is a 1 week tour which is suitable for all levels of riders. The tour departs Queenstown on a Sunday and returns on the following Sunday. Pick up and drop off transport on these days is available from Queenstown Airport or any Queenstown accommodation. Pick up and drop off transport from Christchurch Airport or any Christchurch accommodation is available on request. To ensure personal attention and maximise the unique experience, we limit the spaces available to only 6 clients per vehicle.

The scenic drive to SSR HQ Wanaka Lodge takes approximately 1.5 hours from Queenstown travelling over the Crown Range, through the Cardrona Valley and into the Wanaka township. Once we arrive in Wanaka we stop at the supermarket so that clients can buy their food supplies for the week.

The riding days are typically Monday-Friday (weather permitting) and the decision on which mountain to ride is made daily and based on many variables including; the groups wants, needs and ability level, current snow conditions, weather forecast, snow reports, snow pack data and local knowledge. There is an extra day included in the week which allows for a weather day if the lifts are closed or a relax day on the Saturday for hanging out in the lodge, kicking around town, adrenalin activities or heliboarding.

Clients travel comfortably in our Toyota Super Custom Hiace 4WD vehicles which seat 6 passengers and a driver. The SSR Guide is a commercially licensed driver and experienced in handling the expected road conditions. The SSR Guide is an experienced snow enthusiast with years of specific snow employment and a high level of knowledge of the local region and snow conditions.

WANAKA ACCOMMODATION

SSR HQ Wanaka is our spacious and comfortable private lodge located on a 3 acre property, 10 minutes drive from town. This position allows us to get up to the Wanaka ski areas quickly and makes for a shorter drive to Ohau. Queenstown is only 1 hour away via the Crown Range Road.

The 2 storey lodge features a large kitchen, underfloor heating, upstairs spa bath, drying room and 2 fireplaces. The 3 interconnected living spaces include a cosy lounge room, open plan dining area, bright sunroom with 180 degree views with plenty of space to play on the foozball and well-worked pool table.

SSR HQ Wanaka is our own private lodge and is available exclusively to the clients on the trip that week and SSR staff. All bedrooms feature comfortable accommodation in either single or queen size beds. All linen is supplied and the kitchen is fully stocked with cooking equipment and utensils for guests to prepare their own meals. A complimentary cooked breakfast is served every morning.

The outdoors area has a BBQ on the deck, hammock, in-ground trampoline, plenty of room for afternoon cricket and great views of the surrounding mountains. This perfect location also gives us easy access to the best commercial skifields in the Southern Alps!

SOUTHERN LAKES SKI AREAS

SSR Wanaka is situated on the doorstep of NZ's famous snow town in the beautiful Southern Lakes area. The SSR Wanaka Adventure is ideally suited to every level of rider - beginner, intermediate and advanced. Our unique Southern Lakes multi-mountain liftpass is valid at the following ski areas: Treble Cone, Cardrona, Snow Park NZ, Ohau Coronet Peak and The Remarkables.

There are 6 commercial ski areas in this region and they all feature large investments in grooming, snowmaking, high speed chairlifts and freestyle facilities. Beginners will find perfect terrain to learn first turns on. Early intermediates will find long, groomed runs to perfect their technique on. Stronger intermediates will find terrain and park features to challenge them. Advanced riders will find exciting terrain, great hiking potential and the best freestyle facilities in the Southern Hemisphere.

Riding in the Southern Lakes is a fantastic experience. The views from every run are scenically beautiful and the towns of Wanaka and Queenstown are uniquely Kiwi. Expect to go looking for freshies if they are around, exploring top-to-bottom runs at different resorts and trying out park features at your own level of comfort. No matter what your preferred riding style is, you will definitely enjoy what the Southern Lakes ski areas have to offer!
